Striped Bass

Striped Bass amd Bluefish trips are one of our best trips.  Travel times can be as short as 15  minutes from the dock to the spot.  Action can be hot and heavy at times where double and tripple hook ups are common.  Bass enter local waters in June and stay til October, with the best times for bass are June-August.  In June we do live bait fish using mackerel which often produces bigger fish while chunking will produce more action bass can tip the scales at over 40 lbs.  When bass fishing we remain in sight of land and are typically anchored which makes for a very comfortable day of fishing.  The yankee rarely returns from a bass trip without everyone having caught a fish. While fishing in tight to islands we use light tackle such as Penn 965, and light spinning gear with 15 lb test line.  If targetting larger fish we use penn 320GT2 reels with 25 lb line.

        School Bluefin Tuna

School Tuna Arrive usually some time in mid July.  Once hooked up fights can last a long time and usually test the endurance of the angler.  We typically troll for these fish using 30 class gear.  We also cast to them if the fish are showing on the surface using Penn 8500ss spinning gear spooled with braided power pro.  We also like to keep a 130 class set up out in the trolling spread incase a giant (over 73 inches) comes up.  If we are fortuante enough to catch a giant on a school tuna charter it becomes property of the boat and your next trip is FREE.  Travel time to the school tuna grounds is typically about an hour.  Best tuna action is early morning so we encourage you to be ready to leave before sunrise.  School tuna trips can be done either as all day tuna fishing or we can do half day of tuna fishing in the morning then catch bass once the sun gets up in the sky.

          Cod and Haddock

On cod and haddock trips we hope to help you fill your freezer.  Cod up in the 30 lb range are not un common.  Haddock are caught up to 10 lbs.  Travel time to the grounds is again usually about an hour.  Action is often fast and furious sometimes catching two fish at a time on the same rod.  Action is fairly consistent from June- November.  On these trips everyone can usually fish at the same time.  We use braided line without stretch so you can feel the bite instantly 200 feet down.

                  Shark

Best time for shark trips are typically once the water has warmed late in the summer.  The most common sharks are blue sharks, however the occasional Mako or thresher is always possible.  Shark trips the key is pretty much  CHUM.  You also never know what is going to come up, it is conceivable that a Giant Bluefin (over 73 inches) could come in the slick.  If we catch a giant your next trip is FREE.  Also we will be jigging the botton and haddock and cod are common as well.  The Yankee placed 4th in the 2004 Oak Buffs Monster Shark Tournament.  That was Capt. Jan's first ever entry in the tourney and was bumbed from second to 4th by the last two boats.

         Giant Bluefin Tuna

This is your chance for a fish of a lifetime.  Early season trolling is probably the best bet.  Later in the year we fish anchored up chumming and can be gone for days.  If wishing to charter for a giant we reccomend mid June-mid July.  In 2005 we caght 12 giants to over 800 lbs.  These fish are huge and strong, they can swim upwards of 40 mph.  Once hooked up the day has only just begun.  These charters are typically not pre booked, you would have to give us a time period when you would wish to go and we would then get back to you if the conditions are right.  If conditions are not favorable for the possibility of catching one, we would not have you spend the money to come out.  Departure and return times are up to the Captain.  For the big guys we use Shimano Tiagra 130's with Fishermans outfitter custon rods.
